Proven Leadership. Deep Roots.
A Vision for Safer, Smarter Public Safety.
Born and raised in Kane County, Amy Johnson has dedicated over 20 years to the Kane County Sheriff’s Office — starting as an intern and rising to become the first woman Undersheriff in county history. She’s served in nearly every role: patrol deputy, detective, evidence technician, Chief of Staff, and now Undersheriff.
Amy helped establish the county’s first Domestic Violence Unit and has led with a balance of compassion, accountability, and experience. She’s also an educator, having taught criminal justice at Elgin Community College, Aurora University, and Northwestern University, and is currently working towards earning her Ph.D. in Public Policy and Administration.
Now, she’s running for Sheriff of Kane County to bring steady, proven leadership to the future of public safety.
Let’s move Kane County forward — together.
I will enhance and expand proven programs that reduce recidivism and support mental health and addiction recovery — because true public safety is about prevention, not just punishment.
Working with the County Board and partner agencies, I’ll ensure our taxpayer dollars are used wisely — investing in what works, eliminating waste, and increasing transparency in operations.
I will advance technology, training, and tools to support ethical, accountable law enforcement — while preserving the values of fairness, honesty, and service.
Everyone in Kane County deserves to feel safe, seen, and respected — regardless of their background. I am committed to continuing to build bridges, not barriers, between law enforcement and the communities we serve.
With over two decades in law enforcement, I’ve already led on some of our county’s most innovative programs — and as your Sheriff, I’ll continue to move us forward with integrity, transparency, and action.
Professionalism starts with preparation. Every deputy will continue to receive the highest level of training required in Illinois. From crisis intervention and de-escalation to cultural competency and mental health response, our team will lead the way in readiness and responsibility.
